Overview of Crook of Devon

Situated in the Parish of Fossoway in Perth and Kinross, the village of Crook of Devon straddles the A 977 road from Kinross to the Kincardine Bridge. It lies at a point where the River Devon takes a sharp turn westwards after flowing eastwards from the Ochil Hills and comprises the Old Crook, Tulliebole Mill and Waulkmill areas. Fossoway and Tulliebole Church at the west end of the village dates from 1729 and built into a nearby dyke is a large sandstone boulder known as the Bull Stone, possibly associated with the pastime of bull-baiting. Crook of Devon was the scene of famous witchcraft trials in the 1660s, the witches being burnt to death in a field known as Lamblairs.
