Overview of Fala

A picturesque hamlet located 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Pathhead and 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Humbie, Fala lies next to the A68 trunk route running south into the Scottish Borders. Immediately to the northwest of the village is a straight section of this road was once part of the Roman Dere Street and later the royal route to Edinburgh or Via Regia.

Forming part of a conservation area, Fala comprises houses from the late 18th century. The parish church dates from the same period, although was altered c.1860. Fala won the Beautiful Scotland Award in 1983 and 1985.

To the south is Soutra Aisle, the remains of a church and hospital founded in the 12th C. This lies to the east of Fala Flow or Fala Moor, a moss which was once a source of peat.
