A small village of Wester Ross, Kinlochewe lies at a road junction 2 miles (3 km) southeast of the head of Loch Maree, near the foot of Beinn Eighe. Located here are a hotel, tourist facilities, a post office, a few shops, a petrol station, community fire station and two churches; the white-harled Kinlochewe Free Church (1873) and a green corrugated-iron Church of Scotland. Kinlochewe Primary was mothballed in 2022 after the school roll dropped to a single pupil. Britain's highest-ever January temperature of 19.6°C (67.3°F) was recorded here on the 28th January 2023.
The surrounding area is associated with the Cameron and MacKenzie clans.
