Kilchoan, Ardnamurchan

A scattered village and ferry port on the southern coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula in the West Highlands, Kilchoan is located 6 miles (10 km) north of Tobermory (Mull). It lies around the shallow Kilchoan Bay. Its notable buildings include a hotel, community centre, primary school, the Ardnamurchan Free Church (dating from 1877) and the Ardnamurchan Parish Church, built by architect William Burn in 1829. The Old Parish Church of St. Congan was built in 1763 on the site of an earlier mediaeval church, but is now a roofless ruin. Nearby are two grave-slabs dating from the 14th or 15th century.

A vehicle ferry operates between Mingary Pier, which enters deeper water to the southeast, and Tobermory. Mingary Castle lies a mile (1.5 km) to the southeast and dates from the 14th century.
