Cromdale

Highland

A village in Strathspey, Highland, Cromdale lies on the River Spey, 3 miles (5 km) east of Grantown-on-Spey. The village developed in association with forest planting on the Strathspey Estate in the early 19th century. The Hills of Cromdale rise to 710m (2329 feet) to the south. A Government army defeated a force of Jacobites at the Haughs of Cromdale in 1690, an event later commemorated in a popular ballad by James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepherd (1770 - 1835).
