Aultbea

Highland

A small crofting settlement in Wester Ross, Highland Council Area, Aultbea lies on the E shore of Loch Ewe, 8 miles (13 km) north of Poolewe, looking out towards the Isle of Ewe. During two World Wars Aultbea was used as a deep-water sheltered anchorage for ships of the Home Fleet, in World War II the Arctic convoys heading for Russia assembling here. In post war years a naval refuelling base was established.
