Pettycur

Fife

A resort village of S Fife on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, Pettycur sits on a headland between Burntisland and Kinghorn, now effectively forming a southwestern extension of the latter. A small modern housing development occupies the site of saltworks, which was redeveloped in 1908 as the Kinghorn Bottle Company and produced whisky bottles until 1982. Pettycur was, until the development of the Newhaven-Burntisland railway ferry in 1848, the northern terminal of the Forth Ferry with road links via Cupar to the Tay ferry at Woodhaven. A small fishing harbour remains, but most notable are the multi-million pound Bay Hotel surrounded by the family-owned Pettycur Bay Holiday Park which occupies the steep slopes of The Bents to the west.
