Beeswing

(Lochend)
Dumfries and Galloway

A hamlet in New Abbey Parish, Dumfries and Galloway, Beeswing lies between Loch Arthur and a stream known as the Kirkgunzeon Lane, mid-way between Dumfries and Dalbeattie. Formerly known as Lochend, the village took its present name from an inn which was bought in the mid-19th Century by local racehorse owner, Robert Orde. Orde renamed the Lochend Inn after Beeswing, a championship racehorse which won 51 races during eight seasons. The village eventually came to be known by that name although the church is still called Lochend Church.
