Maryton

Angus

A location in NE Angus, Maryton lies in a parish of the same name to the south of the Montrose Basin, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Montrose. Originally a chapel of the cathedral at Brechin and named St Mary's of Old Montrose, the kirk of Maryton was established as a separate parish church in 1649. The remains of a small mediaeval motte occupies a strongly defensive site on a headland projecting northeastwards towards the Montrose Basin from Maryton Law.
