Overview of Anstruther Easter

Situated between the Dreel Burn on the west and Caddy's Burn on the east and now part of the larger settlement of Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife, Anstruther Easter had its own Town Council until 1929 when the adjacent burghs of Anstruther Easter, Anstruther Wester and Cellardyke were united. It was created a burgh of barony in 1572 and its parish church, dedicated to St Adrian, was built in 1634. The harbour of Anstruther Easter was extended with the construction of the West Pier (1753) and the East Pier (1866-77) to become a major centre of the winter herring fleet in the years leading up to the First World War.
