Aird Uig
Western Isles

A crofting township on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Aird Uig (also Aird Uige) lies a half-mile (1 km) south of Gallan Head, 24 miles (38 km) west of Stornoway. RAF Aird Uig, to the north of the settlement, was once the site of an important communications and monitoring station. While a small part of the facility is still used by NATO, the buildings of the associated military camp have either been turned to civilian use or lie disused.
