A settlement on the northeast coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Port of Ness (Gael: Port Nis) lies in the Ness district, 2 miles (3 km) southeast of the Butt of Lewis. It has a Norse heritage reflected in its name. The people of Ness are famed for Guga hunting, the capturing of young gannets which takes place annually on the remote island of Sula Sgeir. Nearby stands the Clachan an Truiseil, a standing stone of 5.7m (19 feet) in height.
