Located on the south side of the West Mainland of Shetland, 11 miles (17.5 km) west northwest of Lerwick, Skeld comprises the smaller settlement of Wester Skeld and a mile (1.5 km) to the northeast the larger Easter Skeld lying on Skelda Voe. Easter Skeld has a pier, primary school, a community hall, a post-office and a small industrial estate, which includes a smokehouse producing smoked fish.
