Kincardine O'Neil

A hamlet in Deeside, S Aberdeenshire, Kincardine O'Neil lies on the north side of the River Dee, 7 miles (11 km) west of Banchory. The settlement was founded by St Erchan whose holy well was enclosed in 1858. In 1228 the lands of Onele were granted to Thomas Durward who built a bridge here and whose son established a hospice for travellers. Buildings of interest include the old parish church (14th century), tollhouse, the Episcopal Church (1866), two terraces built c.1802 and Kincardine House (1897).
