Lochboisdale

(Loch Baghasdail)
Western Isles

The ferry port and village of Lochboisdale (Gael: Loch Baghasdail) is the chief settlement of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides and the only village on the east coast of that island. It lies at the head of a sheltered bay at the southeast end of the island where a car ferry links the island with Barra, Mallaig and Oban. A new fishing and leisure harbour opened to the southeast of the village in 2015. Lochboisdale today represents a coalescence of the Pier Village (Gael: An Cidhe) with Mauldu (Gael: Maol Dubh) to the west.
