Sandwick

Shetland

A settlement on the east coast of the Mainland of Shetland, Sandwick (Old Norse, Sand Vik, a sandy inlet) lies 15 miles (24 km) south of Lerwick at the head of the Sand Wick. Once a major fishing centre, it has offshore oil service industries, a secondary school and swimming pool serving the South Mainland. During the summer a ferry takes tourists to the nearby Broch of Mousa.
