Rigside


South Lanarkshire

A former mining village in South Lanarkshire, Rigside lies on the Douglas Water 5 miles (8 km) south of Lanark. The early 19th-century Folkerton Mill survives. complete with water-wheel and machinery. A railway line connected with coal pits near here between 1864 and 1969 and in 1997 an opencast mine was opened.
