Dunsyre

South Lanarkshire

A village of South Lanarkshire, Dunsyre is located near the South Medwin Water 6 miles (9 km) east of Carnwath and 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Edinburgh. Once a seat of a barony, its kirk was a frequent retreat for Covenanters in the late 17th century. The village gives its name to Dunsyre Blue a cheese made in nearby Walston since the 1980s.

Dunsyre Hill (401m / 1316 feet) lies to the north, while nearby is the remarkable Little Sparta which was home of the poet and sculptor Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925 - 2006).
