29 August 2012:
Lady Grisell Baillie who died in 1746 was NOT the first deaconess of the Church of Scotland. That was another Lady Grisell, sister of the 10th Earl of Haddington, who became deaconess in 1888 and died in 1892.

10 July 2010:
There are two Lady Grisel Baillies.
The information with the portrait is the daughter of Patrick Hume Earl of Marchmont, she lived from 1655 to 1746.
The final sentence about Lady Grisell Baillie the deaconess is incorrect. She lived from 1822 until 1891 - a different lady but descended from the other Lady Grisell.
