05 November 2004:
The description of the person who renamed the lands of Windyedge to Mount Vernon is wrong. In fact a Glasgow merchant Mr.Robert Boyd purchased Windyedge from the trustees of John Pitcairn in December 1741 and renamed the property Mount Vernon in 1742 - after the famous admiral Edward Vernon. Therefore the property was already known as Mount Vernon when George Buchanan purchased it in 1756 from the Edinburgh merchant Adam Fairholm.
