History
Fearn Airfield (or HMS Owl) was developed by the Fleet Air Arm in 1942 to be used by Fairey Barracuda aircraft for torpedo training. With hostilities over, the base was placed on a care-and-maintenance basis in 1946 and was abandoned in the 1950s. Many of the former military buildings remain, including a substantial accommodation camp. The conversion of the former airfield control tower into a private house featured in the Channel 4 television programme Restoration Man in 2015.
