Crawfordjohn

South Lanarkshire

A village of South Lanarkshire, Crawfordjohn lies to the north of the Duneaton Water, a tributary of the River Clyde, 3 miles (5 km) west of Abington and 7 miles (10 km) northeast of Leadhills. Curling stones produced here are thought to be the best in the world. The village benefits from a modern village hall and a museum, the Crawfordjohn Heritage venture. Artists Sadie McLellan (1914 - 2007) and Walter Pritchard (1905-77) lived in Crawfordjohn between 1971 - 1989, with the former Crawfordjohn United Free Church serving as their studio.
