Abington

South Lanarkshire

The settlement of Abington is located within South Lanarkshire Council Area, 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Biggar and adjacent to the main road route (A74/M74) from Carlisle to Glasgow. The old Edinburgh road from the A74 starts at Abington and heads east to Biggar and Edinburgh. The West Coast Main Line passes on the opposite bank of the River Clyde, where Abington had a railway station between 1848 and 1965, when it fell victim to the Beeching cuts.
