Coaltown of Balgonie

A late 18th-century mining and weaving village in S central Fife, Coaltown of Balgonie is situated on a ridge between the Ore and Leven rivers to the east of Glenrothes and south of Markinch. The village has a primary school and a Miners' Institute. A mile (1.5 km) to the northeast is Balgonie Castle.
