St Martin's (Saint Martins)
Perth and Kinross

A hamlet in a parish of the same name in Perth and Kinross, St Martin's lies between the River Tay and the Sidlaw Hills, 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Perth. Balbeggie and Guildtown are the largest settlements in the parish which is said to take its name from St Martin of Tours. The parish church was rebuilt in 1791-93 and again in 1842. Edinburgh lawyer William Farquharson McDonald built the classical style St Martin's Abbey to the east with adjoining chapel added in 1843. Plans to extend the building in the style of a French chateau in the 1860s were never executed.
