A village in the Braes of the Carse, Kinnaird lies at the mouth of a glen that opens out into the Carse of Gowrie, 8 miles (13 km) east of Perth. Forming an attractive cluster of houses, Kinnaird has a rose garden in addition to a number of buildings of interest including the parish church (1815), the former manse (now Delford House) dating from 1831 and an old school (1834), the latter two buildings being designed by the Perth architect William Mackenzie. On the hill slope above the village stands the four-storeyed, 15th-century Kinnaird Castle which was a stronghold of the Threiplands of Fingask. An earlier tower house on this site was built by the Crown in the 12th century. Philosopher Professor James Mylne was born here in 1757.
