Dron Kirk

A location in Strathearn, Perth and Kinross, Dron lies on the River Farg in the northern foothills of the Ochil Hills, a mile (2 km) to the southeast of Bridge of Earn. The former parish church of Dron with its pinnacled tower dates from 1824. Adjacent are the former manse, built in 1810, a school of the same period and Balmanno Castle built c.1580 and restored by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1816-21 for the Glasgow shipowner William Miller. Sir Walter Scott thought the vista across Strathearn from Dron Hill was one of the most beautiful views in the world. On the slopes of Dron Hill rests a block of whinstone known as the Rocking Stone of Dron.
