Braco

Perth and Kinross

A village in SW Perth and Kinross, Braco is situated on the River Knaik 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Dunblane. Ardoch Parish Church dates from 1781, but only the C-listed tower of the Free Church remains (dated 1845). On the northern edge of the village is the site of the great Roman fortress of Ardoch and its associated marching camps, while to the northwest is Braco Castle. An agricultural show is held annually. Born in Braco in 1846 was William McGregor, founder of the English Football League, while country dance band leader Jim MacLeod (1928 - 2004) began his musical career playing the organ in the church here.
