A village of North Lanarkshire, Glenmavis lies 2 miles (3 km) north northwest of Airdrie. Once surrounded by coal-mines, these had closed by the 1970s, but Glenmavis managed to retain its community. Rochsoles Park was the site of a castle recorded on Timothy Pont's map of 1592, later replaced by a mansion which has subsequently been demolished. The stable block (1839) survives and housing was developed on the park in the 1980s extending the village to the east.
The Glenmavis Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Storage Facility, a key node in the national gas transmission network, lies a half-mile (1 km) to the northwest.
