Moodiesburn

North Lanarkshire

A small town of North Lanarkshire, Moodiesburn lies 4 miles (6.5 km) southwest of Cumbernauld and a mile (2 km) to the west of the junction of the A80 with the M73 motorway. Situated at a road junction, it developed in the early 20th century in association with coal mining and the Stoneyetts Hospital. The town now comprises a mix of public and private housing, together with two primary schools; Glencairn and St. Michael's. The manufacture of collagen film for wrapping meat products developed as a major industry from the 1960s.
