An abandoned group of agricultural holdings, Duich Lots lie between the Duich River and Glenegedale Lots, 4 mile (6.5 km) south southeast of Bowmore. Each of these holdings once comprised a house, barn and modest area of land, and were established in the late 1820s by draining moorland, clearing peat and fertilising with shell-sand to provide land to part-time or non-agricultural tenants. Other townships, which remain occupied, lie to the south, although these schemes seem not to have been greatly successful, perhaps due to the poor quality of the land, and were never fully settled as intended.
