Ben's Village Store, Auchendinny

A small village located on the steep slopes of the valley of River North Esk, 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Penicuik (Midlothian). Auchendinny was long associated with paper-production but the Dalmore Mill, which began operation in 1837 and closed in 2005, the last in the River Esk. The mill has subsequently been demolished to make way for housing. The Penicuik branch of the Peebles Railway once served the mill and a tunnel is extant. The village had a station on the same line, which opened in 1872 but closed in 1951.

The early 18th C. Auchendinny House is a fine Palladian villa by Sir William Bruce (1630 - 1710).
