A linear crofting township in the Sutherland district of Highland Council Area, Laid lies on the western shore of Loch Eriboll, 5 miles (8 km) south of Durness. Danish Ceramic artist Lotte Glob built a unique timber house overlooking the loch here in 2003, with her studio adjacent. An Iron-Age wheel-house is located on the hillside 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Laid.
