Glencoe (Bridge of Coe)

Also known as Bridge of Coe, the small village of Glencoe lies at the western end of Glen Coe on the southern shore of Loch Leven, a mile (1.7 km) east of Ballachulish. The village benefits from a primary school, post office, police station, a mountain rescue post and the Glencoe and North Lorn Folk Museum, while nearby is a National Trust for Scotland visitor centre. Other tourist facilities include an outdoor centre, hotel and caravan site. The B-listed Glencoe House was built for Donald Alexander Smith, Lord Strathcona (1820 - 1914), one of the key figures in the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. This building served as a hospital from the Second World War until 2009.
