Clynelish

Highland

A location in Sutherland, Highland Council Area, Clynelish lies 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Brora. A model farm complex with farmhouse, steading, threshing mill, dairy, laundry and cottages was designed in 1865 by William Fowler and a distillery erected here by the Marquis of Stafford and the Countess of Sutherland dates from 1819. The distillery was expanded in 1896 by the Leith Whisky Blenders, Ainslie and Co. and in 1967 a new distillery was built alongside the old one.
