Broadford Primary School

A township on the Isle of Skye, Highland Council Area, Broadford lies at the head of Broadford Bay where it is joined by Strath Suardal, 6 miles (10 km) west of Kyleakin. The site of a cattle tryst in the 18th and 19th centuries, a road was constructed through Broadford to Portree in 1806-12 and the village was expanded for the settlement of veteran soldiers from the Napoleonic wars. A pier was erected for steamers and fishing boats in the mid-19th Century, a hospital was built in 1971 and a small industrial estate opened in the 1980s. Fish farming and processing, tourism and quarrying are the chief industries.
