Ardelve

Highland

A settlement in W Highland Council Area, Ardelve lies on the north side of Loch Alsh near the mouth of Loch Long and a half-mile (1 km) west of Dornie. It is divided into Upper Ardelve and Lower Ardelve, the former forming a line of crofts while the latter is divided by the A87 trunk road and overlooks Eilean Donan Castle. The settlement benefits from a church (Free Church of Scotland), caravan park and hotel (now the Loch Duich Hotel, but originally known as the Ardelve Inn and then the Airdsferry Hotel). The settlement once had a post office and a school. Ardelve and Dornie are now joined by a bridge, but until this was built in the 1930s the connection relied on a ferry.
