A locality in W Dumfries and Galloway, California lies 1½ miles (2.5 km) west northwest of Whithorn. The locality comprises a farm and a woodland plantation situated at a height of around 75m / 250 feet. The origin of the name is unclear, but it appeared on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1849, and was possibly established when the Loch of Appleby was drained some years previously.
