Humbie
East Lothian

A rural East Lothian hamlet lying on the west bank of the Humbie Water, 4 miles (6 km) east of Pathhead and a similar distance south of Pencaitland, in the shadow of the Lammermuir Hills. The T-plan Parish Church, situated a half-mile (1 km) north of the village, was built in 1800 and remodelled by architect David Bryce (1803-76) in 1866. The kirkyard includes several 17th Century memorials and opposite is the lectern-style Humbie Doocot, dating from the 18th century and, unusually, converted into a residence in 1971.

The Children's Village (1905), once a residential complex for children with learning difficulties, lies prominently just to the southeast of Humbie. Humbie Mill lies on the Humbie Water and the 18th Century Humbie House lies a mile (1.5 km) to the northeast.
