Luffness


East Lothian

Situated a mile (1.5 km) to the northeast of Aberlady in East Lothian, where the Peffer Burn enters Aberlady Bay on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, Luffness lies 5 miles (8 km) southwest of North Berwick. The ancient Luffness Castle was reinforced by the French against the English in 1549, the time of the 'Rough Wooing'. The house was bought by the Hopes of Hopetoun in 1749 and remains in their possession. Luffness Convent located to the southwest.
