Located within East Ayrshire and close to the border with North Ayrshire, the hamlet of Stair sits on the River Ayr, 7 miles (11 km) east of Ayr. Located within the hamlet are Stair House, built in the 17th Century, has many original features within and claims links to Robert Burns, the Stair Bridge which spans the River Ayr and dates from 1745, and Stair Kirk, a Gothic style church built in 1864.
