A small kirkton village at the southern end of The Rhins of Galloway in Dumfries and Galloway, Kirkmaiden lies 14 miles (22 km) south of Stranraer between Port Logan and Drummore. Its church, one of the oldest in Galloway, contains the burial vault of the McDoualls of Logan. An unusual lighthouse monument in the kirkyard commemorates the son of a keeper of the Mull of Galloway lighthouse who died here in 1852.
