A small settlement in The Machars of Galloway, Broughton comprises a few cottages lying to the northwest of Broughton Bridge, 2½ miles (4 km) north of Whithorn, together with the farms of Broughton Mains and Broughton Skeog. The Broughton Burn flows east from the latter to fall into Cruggleton Bay.
