Cargenbridge

Dumfries and Galloway

An industrial village of Nithsdale in Dumfries and Galloway, Cargenbridge lies on the Cargen Pow, 1½ miles (2.5 km) southwest of Dumfries. An explosives and chemicals factory was established here in 1939 by the Ministry of Supply. It continued to be operated after the war by ICI, specialising in plastics and paint. Part of the factory has closed but a packaging film plant continues to operate, owned by multi-national chemical giant Du Pont since 1998. Part of the site has been developed as a business park. Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary moved to a greenfield site here in 2017.
