Falkirk

A village in Falkirk Council area, Whitecross is situated on the Manuel Burn between the line of the Edinburgh-Glasgow railway and the B825 Avonbridge-Linlithgow Bridge road. A Bernardine Convent was established here in the 12th century and in the 15th century Almond Castle was built nearby. The village developed in the early 20th century in association with coal mining and the manufacture of firebricks and consists primarily of public housing. Manuel brick-works closed in 2002. The village benefits from a primary school.
