A location at the head of Ettrickdale in the Scottish Borders, Phawhope lies close to the border with Dumfries and Galloway 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Moffat. There are farms at Nether Phawhope and Over Phawhope, and Phawhope Hill rises to 503m (1650 feet).
