A location in North Lanarkshire, Braehead is located to the south of Bargeddie and 2 miles (3 km) west southwest of the centre of Coatbridge. A quarry gave way to a succession of collieries and brick-works in the 19th Century, with Braehead Rows representing 43 houses for miners, long since demolished. An 18th-century farm-steading remained in the centre of this post-industrial landscape until 2017 when it was demolished to make way for the 'missing link' in the M8 motorway.
Left-wing politician John Wheatley (1869 - 1930) was raised at Braehead.
