Slochd

A deep hollow on the high ridge between Carrbridge and Tomatin, the Slochd comprises a small settlement (including Slochd Cottages) lying between two passes (Slochd Mor and Slochd Beag) separated by 1¼ miles (2 km). It is traversed by the main northbound road (A9) and railway line which rise to 405m (1328 feet). Sir Thomas Dick Lauder (1784 - 1848) records that the last wolf in Scotland is said to have been killed near here in 1743 by a hunter called MacQueen.
