A small settlement in the Ettrick Forest district of the Scottish Borders, Cappercleuch lies at the junction of the Meggat and Yarrow valleys, to the west of St. Mary's Loch, 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Moffat. In 1978 the Meggat Dam was built 2 miles (3 km) to the west, impounding the Meggat Reservoir, the longest reservoir in SW Scotland.
