Nether Liberton

A little settlement on the course of the Braid Burn in Edinburgh, Nether Liberton lies at the valley-bottom a half-mile (1 km) north of Liberton and 2½ miles (4 km) south southeast of the city centre. The Barony of Nether Liberton and Craigmillar passed through the hands of the Forresters of Corstorphine, Winrams and Gilmours, who held it until the 1940s. There was a mill here in the 12th C. which operated until the 1840s, but the building remains today. The village has a population of 267 in the late 18th C. with an inn and a school. Several 18th C. buildings remain behind Cameron Toll Shopping Centre while on the opposite side of Gilmerton Road is Good's Corner which was named after Alexander Good, who ran a joinery business here, and Nether Liberton Doocot, which was associated with Inch House.
